Introduction

Custom code in Head, Core Enhancements, Coding & Scripts Integration

Insert any JavaScript/CSS/Any tag into the document head based on menu item, user group, access level or by using the content plugin tag options.

Similar plugins exist, but they are either limited in scope, or have terrible configuration interfaces. HeadTag aims to be an all-in-one solution to provide the ability to add the following types of tags to the document -

  • JavaScript/CSS source files
  • JavaScript/CSS Declarations
  • Optional async, defer, and mediaversion on scripts
  • Custom tags (of any type)
  • Insert via {headtag} plugin tags
  • Insert via plugin configuration
  • Insert on menu items (optionally inherited by menu item children)
  • Insert on usergroup
  • insert on access level
  • IE Conditionals
  • Joomla JS frameworks

The plugin can be used in two ways:
1. By using the plugin configuration to designate tags to be inserted by specific menu item, access level, or user group.
2. By plugin tags inserted into content items, descriptions or modules (which process content plugins).

Version 2.5 users - the 3.0 version is not an upgrade! Upgrading requires you to re-enter your rules or you will lose them upon saving the new version for the first time on your site.

Does what it says but throws up many PHP warnings in the log: in_array() expects parameter 2 to be array, null given in headtag .php line 8
Ease of use
Simple to set up - jut followed the instructions and installed it as shown.

Absolutely zero - no response to forum or emails. Beware! Use this and you are on your own.
Documentation
Comprehensive - I found all that I needed to do the required job.

It was very clear what I needed to do to with this.
I used this to: I normally use another extension that handles canonical urls, however, in this case I needed an alternative. I tried a few other options but was pleased to see how easy it was for me to add canonical url's per menu item. I can also see how this could be very useful going forward.

I used this to: Adding individual scripts required for specific pages so that I can remove old in-line scripts. Thank you for making this available.... and for free. I shall be looking at your paid extensions given how impressed I have been with this. You have saved me a lot of time today.

Only took a moment to figure out how to add my custom content in the plugin's interface
Documentation
Although it's easy enough to figure out without documentation, the website has well illustrated docs.
I used this to: As a manager of multiple regional sites with the same branded template, EasyScriptPro allowed me to add both sitewide region-specific head content for things like SEO, analytics, tracking, pixels, etc. as well as page-specific scripts at the same time. Simply invaluable.

Owner's reply: Is this a bug report? You're using a version of PHP that Joomla itself no longer supports - so I can't really take your report seriously. At 3.3, the minimum is raised to PHP 5.3.10, and at the time of your report, the Joomla version was 3.4.1. So your problem may have been that your PHP version did not meet the requirements for the parts of the Joomla framework that I was using to create this plugin.

And I don't really appreciate learning about it in a review. You might have tried contacting me first. This plugin isn't free because I'm hostile to the community....

I'm not sure what you mean by "engine-back support code" - this plugin utilizes the Joomla framework exclusively to avoid conflicts that cause a failure. Nobody else is reporting issues, so I can only assume it's your server or setup that's causing the issue.

Dear Michael: Thank you very much for your useful plugin!

It works great on version 2.5 but it doesn't work on a clean 3.3 installation. On the respective tabs where you have to select the menu items, once you select one, it just doesn't display the rest of the fields "Tag Type" and "Source File".
